Kathryn Blocki’s passion for excellence in teaching is demonstrated by the consistent success of her students. Her zeal to help every student reach their fullest potential is unmistakable.  Numerous students have excelled in competitions and several have received full scholarships to continue their music education. Flute choirs under her direction have consistently received perfect ratings at state competitions.

Renowned saxophone chamber ensemble the Capitol Quartet presents a broad historical program exploring the saxophone's journey from contraption to artistry. The performance will include the first-ever composition for saxophone quartet, transcriptions from traditional chamber repertoire, recent commissions and premieres, and jazz.

This Friday studio class will feature repertoire by Bozza, Chaminade and Carlos Simon. In addition, some tips on intonation and scale practice will be discussed!

Our collaborative piano faculty member, Dr. Joanne Yang, will present tips for rehearsal and recital success. Pieces by Sancan and Eads will be performed by Penn State flute studio members.

The School of Music voice area faculty, including Rachel Copeland, Ted Christopher, Norman Spivey, Dawn Pierce and Parker Konkle, will perform pieces that were significant early in their careers and new works that are currently inspiring them. 

The new Palmer Museum at Penn State opened this summer. Today the flute studio will get a private curated tour of the museum highlights. Meet in the Palmer Museum Lobby!

The Penn State School of Music will host a Kickoff Concert on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall. This free event is open to the public and promises an evening filled with outstanding student and faculty performances, and exciting previews of the upcoming season. 

Welcome PSU Flute Studio for the 2024-2025 academic year!!! To celebrate this academic year we will have our first studio class at the Penn State Arboretum. We will picnic and welcome our newest members of the studio. Looking forward to this fabulous year to come!
